Alphabet of Companies!

Google is now Alphabet - very interesting move by one of the biggest company in the world and it came out of nowhere. This may be in works and may have been triggered by motivation of creating CEO positions for very capable candidates like Sundar P and others. Congrats to another Indian CEO at major tech company. This move by Google triggered me thinking. What are various companies which would complete Alphabet's A-Z? Here is my take:

A: Airbnb (Hospitality)
B: Baidu (Search in biggest market)
C: Calico (Biotech/Life Sciences)
D: Dropbox (Storage)
E: Expedia (Travel)
F: Flipcart (India's biggest online marketplace)
G: Google (of course)
H: Hulu (complementary to YouTube)
I: Instacart (Grocery shopping)
J: Jawbone (Wearables)
K: Kickstarter (Fund-raising)
L: LinkedIn (Professional social network)
M: MonDB (Database for app developers)
N: Nest (Home Automation)
O: OpenTable (Online restaurant reservation)
P: PayPal (Payments)
Q: Quora (Search based on Q&A)
R: Rackspace (Cloud provider to fight against AWS)
S: Snapchat (social, social and social)
T: Twitter (Social and newsfeed)
U: Uber (City-travel)
V: Vimeo (Complementary to Youtube)
W: Wing (Google company focused on Drones)
X: Xerox (this was difficult choice but buy it for patents)
Y: Yelp (customer reviews)
Z: Zenefits (Cloud based benefit provider)

I am sure there could be many such lists. Would be interested to find out how many of these end up being an "Alphabet" company!

Happy Holidays... After 5 months of hibernation with no real reason than writing block, I decided to use quiet morning of Christmas day to start writing again. Lot has happened in last 5 months - in particular release of Animal Spirits with Fed starting interest rate reduction cycle and historic victory of President Trump for 2nd term. Elections and Rotations!

2024 will be known as an important year in terms of elections (97 nations covering half the population) across the major countries in the world. We are only halfway thru the year and already some key nations have gone thru elections and voters have indicated their preference for change (in a way). Let's take a look at few. India - Modi's BJP started with lots of enthusiasm with slogans of "Modi ki Guarantee" and "400 paar" (more than 400) seats (out of 543). Indian voters (which I considered one of the most smartest) gave reality check to Modi and BJP by reducing BJP count to 240 (from 303 in previous parliament) forcing it to form coalition government. I have lot more detailed hypothesis on these results (but not here). Almost everyone (including me) got their predictions wrong and lost some friendly bets. Indians want balance between "Strong, Prosperous, Proud" India with "Inclusive, Employment and Harmony". Modi and BJP are quick learn...

Happy Earth Day!
