Harry Potter Mania

It was Harry Potter mania which has engulfed world forced me to come out of my summer hibernation and start writing on my blog again. I also went with Yash and Isha to buy final installment of Harry Potter series book. I must admit that it went just for the fun and till now have seen only movies (not read the first 6 books). I started reading the book and the plot is really interesting.
We saw hindi movie called "Partner". It is loosely based on Will Smith movie Hitch with all ususal bollywood masala. All of us did liked the movie - nice dance numbers at exotic locations and good comedy. If you are into bollywood movies, I do recommend this movie.
In last 6 weeks, I was more active on contributing articles to SeekingAlpha site. In fact couple of my articles did got published (editors of this site decide which ones to publish). Check them out:

My model portfolio is doing very good and in fact it is already on track to meet my objective of beating S&P by at least 2%. As of 6/30/07, returns was 10% as against 7% for S&P. Till then, it had done even better with YTD returns of 14.6% (compared to 7% for S&P). The portfolio's overweight on international markets and investment in FSESX were two major factors for this performance and I am sure it will continue to do better.

Quick update on India recommendations:

1. Aptech is at 360
2. Teledata is at 68
3. My latest recommendation of Zee News doubled last week trading at 71

My new India recommendation is RS Software at Rs 43. Is is very niche software company and in recent weeks it got penalized due to rupee appreciation and some company specific factors. Company have allocated warrants to current majority holders to buy stock at Rs 66. My target price for RS software is 87 by Dec 31, 2008 generating returns of over 100% in less than 18 months

Since the Software companies (In India)outlook is somewhat doubtful in the wake of improved rupee and Indian wages, i was wondering about your reason behind suggesting RS software.

I think, people who have indepth knowledhe of that Systems can only see the opportunity and growth. Its truly a good company working in a very good area.

It's Oscar Sunday and time for predictions for few categories - before I digress into talking about drama in DC or markets.  First of all, I want to recognize the damage LA fires have done to the beloved areas of Los Angeles and impacted families across all spectrums. My heart goes out to them and wish them recovery and rebuilding of their lives... This year's Oscar nominees and post nomination period had been interesting to say the least. Due to this, the field is wide open in almost all categories and that's what makes prediction game so interesting. Just to set expectations, I would consider a win if I get even 50% predictions correct given the dynamics of nominees this year. So here are my predictions - "And the Oscar goes to..." Best Picture - Anora (surprise could be "The Brutalist") Best Director - Sean Baker for "Anora" (Surprise could be Brady Corbet for "The Brutalist") Best Actor - Adrien Brody for "The Brutalist"...

The Politics and Gamesmanship of TikTok!

TikTok is less than 3 hours from going dark on USA's east coast if TikTok owner Bytedance (and Chinese Government) follows thru its "bluff" to honor the law " Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act" which goes into effect on Jan 19, 2025. And suddenly there is lots of politics and gamesmanship around TikTok.. Let's look at the players and their positions US Congress: The " TikTok Ban" law was passed by congress with bipartisan support and coincidently it goes into effect one day before new administration takes charge. Everyone knew the exact date and time of oath taking ceremony of new President...but maybe the congress did not think that there would be change of President and did not bother to put effective date post new government taking charge...that created a window of 36 hours of "law being in effect" unless...
